One of the toughest things I had to overcome as a fisherman was changing my lure too often. This relates directly to patience, but confidence in the bait you are fishing with can be the difference between putting fish in the boat or not.
Once you have chosen the right type of bait for the species of fish you are targeting, stick with it for awhile to see if you will get results. Try the following strategies before abandoning your bait
