Bluegill, commonly called Brim or Bream, are a fun fish to catch and great table fare. Indigenous to the United States, Bluegill is a fish that is great fun for the beginning angler. The best thing is; you do not need a boat to catch them.
Find a lake with access to a dock. The fish love the structure and will be hanging around. Be quiet and set up shop. Anywhere on the bank of a lake is also a great spot to catch Bluegill. They are everywhere.
Bluegill can be caught on small lures, though, they enjoy hot dogs, worms, minnows and kernel corn. The best way I have found to catch them is by using a small baited hook, with a little weight, hanging from a bobber. Try a cane pole if you don’t have a fishing license.

I love catching blue gill! I now live near the ocean but when I lived in Pittsburgh we used to take our 5 weight fly rods to a local lake and catch tons of blue gills on small poppers. We never ate them but it sure was fun!
