On the Hunt for Big Pit Bass at Tenoroc: Day 2

May 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments

After a beautiful day of fishing that produced less than what my wife and I had hoped for, we planned for day two at Tenoroc lake “B”. We learned there were two boat ramps on the lake, so we would launch from the second and cover new ground, um, water. We also acquired a contour map of the lake that would help us find the fish.

Day 2: By 9 AM, my wife was hooked up on her first Bass. It seemed that pumpkin was the color, though, red was drawing hits the previous day. With the help of the contour map and the Humminbird, I was beginning to get an understanding of where the fish were. I could not seem to catch them even when they were biting, but I could put my wife on them. She put two more in the boat that had to be released immediately as they were over 15 inches. We catch and release anyway. I managed to hook one but he threw the bait as his head shook at the waters surface. That is when I caught my prize, a chewed up Pepsi can. So, then I ate a PB and J sandwich.

Largemouth BassI finally caught a Bass on a fire tiger colored crank bait. As soon as the lip of the bait bumped the bottom I paused and it was on. The Bass are much lighter in color [and weight] than what I usually catch. There is a lot of area to cover, so you have to find where the Bass are concentrated. I also caught a pretty big Gar. Did you know their eggs are poisonous? In tribute to a blog I have been reading, I named him Gar Brooks. The best thing about the pits is the abundance of wildlife and secluded coves to fish. Only 14 anglers can be on the water at a time which leaves plenty of elbow room. If you are in the Polk County area make a reservation and try to catch a big Pit Bass at Tenoroc.

Tenoroc is a great place to fish! I just wanted to point something out…it is 14 boats, not anglers allowed at one time on the lake.

Thanks, Trish. We strive to be as accurate as possible. Your suggestion is appreciated.

Sometimes I wonder if I count as an angler. ;)
